Aromatic organic tea blends with yerba mate as the base

Mate blends combine the tangy, spicy base of yerba mate with flavouring ingredients — from citrus-fresh accents to creamy chocolate notes. Yerba mate is South America's traditional national drink and comes from the leaves of Ilex paraguariensis. Flavouring is done gently with essential plant oils, without synthetic additives.
Loose leaf mate tea in blends delivers more aroma than tea bags, because the coarser cut lets the full flavour profile develop. All our mate blends contain caffeine from the mate component — around 20–40 mg per cup, depending on the blend ratio and steeping time.

How do you prepare a mate blend?
Water temperature 70–80 °C — never boiling, otherwise the mate component turns bitter. Steeping time 3–5 minutes. One heaped teaspoon per 200 ml. Also works as iced tea in summer — brew hot, let it cool, then pour over ice.
What is the difference from the pure mate tea category?
The pure mate category contains pure yerba mate (green, roasted, etc.) without any added flavour ingredients. Mate blends, by contrast, combine mate with fruits, spices or other teas (e.g. rooibos) — milder in mate character, but with additional flavours.
How long does a mate blend keep?
Stored dry, protected from light and in an airtight tin, a loose mate blend keeps for 12–18 months without losing aroma. Check the best-before date on the packaging. Since mate is finely ground, it is best to buy small quantities and use them up soon.
